Four people including teachers and students were killed in a school shooting in Thailand on Friday, the education minister confirmed.
Prasert Jantararuangtong did not specify whether the four dead included the gunman, who police said had killed himself. Government officials said at least 15 other people were injured in the attack, according to local media reports.
The incident took place at the prestigious Debsirin Nonthaburi school in the Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province.
The shooter was a student who remained inside the school after reports of the attack first emerged, Arsit Sampantharat, the permanent secretary for the interior ministry, told news station PPTV.
Images from the scene about an hour after the shooting showed people standing outside the school comforting one another and police and first responders walking around inside the school. The building apparently had been secured, but officials had not publicly confirmed the status of the shooter.
A witness told reporters that students hid inside a classroom while they heard gunshots from another building before police officers knocked on the door and cleared a way for them to leave the building.
In the 2025 academic year, the school had an enrolment of about 3,100 students and 147 teachers, according to district authorities.
The school is one of a network of Debsirin secondary schools, which were founded by the Thai royal family. Alumni include prime ministers, scholars and writers.
